75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

From December 10, 2023 until the following December 2024 we are marking the 75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Pope John Paul II called it: “one of the highest expressions of the human conscience of our time.”  Adopted in 1948 shortly after the end of the Second World War, which saw that “disregard and contempt for human rights have resulted in barbarous acts which have outraged the conscience of humankind,” the Universal Declaration declares that “recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world.”
